ANSWERS
1. What is the maximum distance to read or write a contactless card?top
A. Excelec medium readers meet ISO14443A standard, which limits reading-writing distance to 10 centimeters. Please refer to each catalogue to know the reading distance. Reading distance also depends on the size and quantity of the antenna of the card.
2. What if I need a reading distance larger that 10 centimeters?top
A. You have to go to another technology like ISO15693. Upon request we offer the technologies.
3. Where can I buy contactless cards?top
A. Excelec sells cards. You can also purchase cards from one of the many contactless cards manufacturers.
4. How long do the cards last?top
A. Contactless cards do not have batteries, so life is limited by the EEPROM memory inside the card, which limits life to 10.000 write cycles. For practical reasons it is better to consider the life expectancy the same as the expected life of the plastic part of the card, which is about 3 years.
5. Can I read more that one card at a time?top
A. Yes our products have “anti-collision” procedures, allowing our machines to read more that one card at a time. If many cards are read at a time a frequency shifting will happen, so it is better to consider that no more than 10 cards are read at a time.
6. Is it possible to read the card inside the purse or bag?top
A. Yes, but only if the distance does not exceed the reading distance, and if there are no large metal parts between the card and the reader or behind the card.
7. Can the Medium-I, Medium-II and Minimed products be connected in LAN or standalone connection?top
A. Yes, LAN connection is made by means of a wire pair using RS485 standard. Standalone operation is standard. Optional built-in modem communication is also possible.
8. Is it possible to share the server used for banking purposes with Medium machines?top
A. Yes, the server can take care of transactions coming from RockPOS terminals or Medium terminals.
